Press Release

June 1st 2024 - 100 Days in Operation

Founded by three food and drink lovers—Stuart, Henric, and Pete—The Botanist offers a unique fusion of fresh food, great drinks and art in Bermuda's Botanical Gardens. Come for the food, stay for the drinks and uncover the secret that everyone’s talking about.

Discover The Botanist - Café & Garden Lounge: Bermuda's newest hidden gem in the Botanical Gardens. Located in the same building as the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, The Botanist is the perfect place to enjoy the best coffee in Bermuda, unwind with cocktails in the afternoon or sip ‘rosé all day’ in the rose garden. The Botanist (www.botanist.cafe) opened on February 22nd of this year and has quickly become a favourite amongst regulars for fresh food, great coffee and as a go-to meeting place in the Botanical Gardens escaping the congestion and noise of the traffic of the City of Hamilton.

As it celebrates its 100th day of delighting customers in the heart Botanical Gardens, you can often see customers relaxing in the Rose Garden. The Rose Garden has seen significant attention over the last few months from the Department of Parks, their team and the Rose Society working to bring back one of Bermuda’s quintessential gardens of beautiful roses.

Sharon, Vice President of the Bermuda Rose Society says, “The Rose Garden has undergone a complete transformation over the past few months due to the care and attention of the staff at the Department of Parks, and with help and advice from Clare Russell, former President of the Rose Society.  The roses in the garden are all locally grown Bermuda roses and offer a sanctuary of scent and colour.  It’s a beautiful backdrop for a glass of wine or lunching with friends, and well worth a visit by locals and visitors alike. It is so refreshing to see families and especially children, our future gardeners, enjoying the gardens and Bermuda’s historic rose heritage”.

While some restaurants offer views of busy streets, The Botanist boasts stunning botanical scenery, complete with a calming fountain, chittering birds and soft South Shore winds. Dog owners will also appreciate the cafe's dog-friendly policy, making it a welcoming spot for both humans and their furry companions.

Stuart says, “There is a great deal of love, thought and emotion that has gone into creating The Botanist. Our goal was to offer a different experience and exceed customers’ expectations, to warmly welcome everyone into this friendly environment we have created with three very different spaces and make them feel special. The unique combination of our personalities, and our love for great food, fabulous wines and rare whiskies coupled with a good helping of humour have allowed us to dream our dream into reality. Three friends chatted about how we could make a difference and have some fun, what we could do to offer a different and better hospitality experience, and here it is. All of this could not have been made possible without the help and dedication of our close friends who helped us get to where we are today, so thank you to all our customers, suppliers, tradesmen, the team at Masterworks, our friends and family.”

The Botanist has quickly developed a reputation for its fresh menu and welcoming atmosphere. The Botanist continually changes and improves our menu with a dedication to incorporate local producers most noticeably The AgraLiving Institute at the Educational Research Garden in the Botanical Gardens.

Chris Faria, managing director of AgraLiving, who delivers sustainable farming education for both local school children and adults, commented that, “our partnership with The Botanist not only generates revenue to support our programs but has also given us more exposure and I find it very fulfilling to have our produce showcased by our wonderful neighbours!

Pete says, “It has been fantastic to meet and work with passionate local producers as well as several local bakers to showcase a locally made menu. Being able to source some of our greens, herbs and vegetables for dishes and cocktails from less than 50 yards away, from Chris, has been another unique factor of the Botanist.”

“Our Signature Flatbreads have been a big hit. Our pear, Stilton, walnut with Botanical Gardens arugula and local honey drizzle, paired with a draft pint from Bermuda Craft Brewery is my favourite” according to Henric.

Open from 8 AM to 4 PM daily, with newly extended hours until 8 PM on Thursdays and Fridays, The Botanist is a perfect destination for breakfast, a chance to get out of the office for lunch or a relaxing cocktail after work.

And for those in the know, there's a little secret downstairs that adds to The Botanist’s charm.

As The Botanist also has a great collaboration with Masterworks, we can also offer Sip & Paint, combined with wine from our carefully tailored seasonal list.

Risa Hunter of Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art explains, “We are thrilled about the opening of The Botanist Café. After a long period of being closed, it has been a pleasure watching the vision come to life with Pete, Henric and Stuart having done a spectacular job in providing a truly unique experience for their customers. The Botanist is always a suggested stop to our museum guests, and similarly we enjoy welcoming The Botanist customers to view the current exhibitions at the Museum. Having the café located inside Masterworks, the Botanical Gardens have become an even more desirable destination for both Bermudian residents and tourists visiting the Island.”

Private events at The Botanist have become very popular. From larger outdoor gatherings in the beautiful garden to intimate downstairs private events, The Botanist provides a unique and charming setting for any occasion.
